Steps for Making the Most of Mentorship

Mentors form a central part of our in-depth training program at Denver Connections. We pair out new team members with experienced managers to share insight and enthusiasm. Making the most of a mentor relationship can require some work from both parties. Here are some steps you can follow to learn from more experienced professionals:

• Find the Right Fit: Fitting mentors and mentees together is a major component of using the relationships effectively. This is especially important to consider when searching independently. Identify someone who can offer valuable insight and who has shown interest in being helpful.

• Set Clear Goals: In approaching any initiative at Denver Connections, we are clear about our objectives. This is as true in mentorship as anywhere else. Ensure that both parties have a clear understanding of the expectations for the arrangement.

• Keep It Consistent: Mentoring is often most effective when check-ins are regular. Have a schedule that you both can continuously manage. Then follow that to keep the conversation going. This will help you both respect each other’s time and also lead to more impact.

• Don’t Give Up: Sometimes things will get tough. You may not always hear what you want to hear from your mentor. Don’t let these obstacles get in the path of your success.

These steps will empower you to get the most impact from mentorship. Learn more about this by liking Denver Connections on Facebook.
